Hello, (I think i am not posting my comment into the write place, sorry, I can't find the right one, anyway...) I am a 30 years old guy, wishing to study videoart or media art or something related to that.
I am mainly interested to go France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, England,
I come from a sciences' studies background, and i got a graduate degree in biology in 2001, but now I am working as a teacher in secondary school. Besides of that, I am interested in art, and I've taking eventually some photography, graphic work, painting courses and others...since time ago.
I wouldn't like to enroll a whole undergraduate -I feel somehow not able to follow it successfuly, as far as it means at first to study a formal fine-arts undergraduate with further specialization. I mean I already had enough of that studing 5 years full-time biology.
It's been too long now that I am searching in the internet what to study and where, always with no success. Have you got any useful idea about what kind of studies would be proper for me? and where.?. I cannot make up my mind nor take decisions without any valuable help.
I'd really appreciate any tip back to my request. Thank you!
I had a similar problem when looking for a course in which I could explore my interest in media art practice without having to do an entire BA (I had a BA in media and cultural studies: mainly theoretical background). This programme offers an amazing range of subjects with a fantastic 50% practice component. Practical courses are taught by practitioner Graham Harwood (part of the Mongrel group, you should look him up, he's done amazing work). You do have to show an interest in critical theory of interactive media as well if you want to do this course and the workload is heavy and pace is high. This allows you to get a lot of experience in one year though, and you're free to choose your own media and follow your own interests for your projects. A great thing also is that they accept people from various backgrounds (even if you lack practical experience in the arts), which results in an interesting, diverse group of students (14 people in my year). I'd suggest you take a look at the website, I think its a really good course for people from a different background who want to build a quick but solid bridge to the new media arts.
